The Roadrunner staff regrets having to inform the Area 51 veterans and members of the final flight of OXCART flight surgeon Don Nichols, MD on 7/19/2016. Our condolences to his family and friends.
Dr. Don, age 79, died peacefully in the cottage at Clark Lake, early in the morning on Saturday July 16, 2016. He fought a four year, ugly battle with colon cancer. He lived with his wife of 56 years Wilma Joyce (Ward) Nichols in Clark Lake, Michigan, Oceanside, California and Salt Lake City, Utah depending on the time and temperature of the year. Loving, stubborn, kind, opinionated, tenacious, and larger than life have all been used when describing Don, but loyal and generous resonate the most with his family. Survived by; wife Wilma J. Nichols, son Scott (Jenny)Nichols, daughter Dr. Pam Nichols, grandchildren Kelsey, Laura and Elaine Nichols, sister Dr. Mary N. (Dr. Jack) Bentley, as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cousins. Predeceased by father Senator Haskell L Nichols, mother Mary Elizabeth Nichols, brother Dr. John (Dr. Ann Deaton) Nichols, Dr. Ann N. Clark. If you choose, please make a donation to the Clark Lake Foundation or Colon Cancer research. We are grateful for the kind and gentle care of the Allegiance Hospice group for easing the pain of both Don and the family. Wetherby Funeral Home 402 Wildwood Ave. -
