Following the in-flight loss of the ventral fin during a NASA Coldwall mission on Feb. 27, 1975, an airflow sensor was placed where the fin was attached to measure airflow disturbance caused by the Coldwall experiment. The first flight without the ventral took place on July 22, 1975 with Fitz Fulton and Vic Horton at the controls.
